Đây là cái cert cơ bản nhất, phải có cái cert này thì mới có thể thi các cert khác như SCWCD, SCBCD, SCDWS, SCJD, SCMAD. Cert SCEA thì không yêu cầu bất kỳ cert nào làm prerequisite, nhưng Sun recommend là chỉ dành cho người có kinh nghiệm J2EE được 5 năm.

Để đăng ký thi thì có thể đăng ký bất kỳ trung tâm nào được Prometric hay VUE ủy quyền. Ở HCM thì có thể thi ở Saigon CTT

Theo kinh nghiệm của tôi thì trước khi thi thì tìm hiểu sơ vể các objectives của certificate. Vào trong các diễn đàn tham khảo các FAQ.
Sau đó chọn cho mình duy nhất 1 cuốn để luyện. Cụ thể là McGraw.Hill.Osborne.SCJP.Sun.Certified.Programmer.for.Java.5.Study.Guide.Exam.310-055.Dec.2005.chm cho SCJP 5
và A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification.chm cho SCJP 1.4
Cá nhân tôi thì khuyên các bạn luyện tối thiểu là SCJP 5 vì SCJP 1.4 lạc hậu lắm rồi. Chỉ lo các bạn vừa mới luyện xong chuẩn bị đăng ký thi thì Sun cancel cái cert đó thì thật khổ.

Sau khi luyện tương đối 70->80% thì bắt đầu test mock, tham khảo các notes để ôn lại cái cũ và học thêm cái mới. Cuối cùng là finish 100% cuốn sách. Trong quá trình luyện thì tích cực practice. Theo tôi thì dùng IDE Eclipse là thoải mái nhất, nhiều shortcuts, nhanh nhất.

Theo tôi nghĩ thì nếu học cẩn thận thì tối thiểu bạn phải được 90%

Điều quan trọng nữa là SCJP chỉ là phương tiện ban đầu, không phải mục đích, không đảm bảo bạn thành 1 programer giỏi. Hiện nay nhiều công ty coi trong soft skill hơn là hard skill.
